According to Forbes Magazine, there are 1,011 billionaires in the world this year. These moguls control entire swaths of the global economy, from energy and steel to fashion and telecom. Interestingly enough, the richest man in the world this year is from a developing country - Mexico. Carlos Slim Helu, a telecom tycoon who jumped on the privatization of Mexico's national telecom company made $18.5 billion in 2009. Today, Helu's net worth is $53.5 billion.
