I Spy... Banksy

April 2010 blogger

Banksy, the anonymous British street artist, infamous for his graffiti around the world, is in Los Angeles. Banksy, most popular for his anonymity and courage, has work on streets around the world. Banksy has left his art for millions to view, from the Israeli West Bank Barrier to rundown buildings in New Orleans. Perhaps the most controversial talent of Banky's is the ability to place his own artwork in maximum security, highly coveted museums. Banksy has placed subverted works in museums such as the Louvre in Paris, MOMA, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the American Museum of Natural History.
When I heard Banksy was in my hometown for his film premiere, Exit Through the Gift Shop, I went on an adventure to find his graffiti. The piece of work I found was on La Brea Avenue on an abandoned building's wall. I was so excited to finally see Banksy in Los Angeles. The next day, I came back to show a friend, and to our dismay, found that the graffiti was gone. Someone, smartly knowing the value of this art, stole it! See the photos below.
