Have you ever wondered what the "Prada Marfa" painting symbolizes on the wall of the Van der Woodsen's Upper East Side Penthouse on
Gossip Girl? No, Marfa is not a fancy Italian word you do not know. It is actually a tiny town in Texas. And no, Prada does not have a retail store there.

In 2005, Â Scandanvain artists Elmgreen & Dragset unveiled Prada Marfa, a 15' x 25' sculptural doppelganger of a Prada boutique near Marfa, Texas, complete with lighting and merchandise, but sealed shut: a time capsule of Luxury retail.

The ecofriendly sculpture cost $80,000 to construct, and was intended to never be repaired so it may slowly degrade back into the natural landscape.
