The Japanese artist Takashi Murakami meets  Louis XIV at a spectacular - and controversial - exhibition at Chateau de Versailles. The artist's manga-like sculptures surround Versailles in Baroque opulence. Murakami explained that the reason he wanted to do an exhibition there, of all places, is that Chateau de Versailles is, "One of the greatest symbols in Western history. It's emblematic of elegance, sophistication, and artistic ambition that most of us could only dream of."
Murakami's works are benevolent and joyous, bringing the palace happiness, joy and merriment. Not everyone agrees, though, bringing criticism to the latest installment. Conservative critics argue that the provocative works of Murakami do not belong in such a historic place, but the curator, Laurent Le Bon, disagrees. Le Bon believes the works bring a rediscovery to the historic palace.
