Five Flats Fit for the Season

November 12, 2015 wordpress

Once upon a time you wouldn’t dream of seeing flat shoes on the runway, but this season designers are embracing flat footwear like never before. While “sensible footwear” doesn’t always translate as fashion-forward, many of the new season designs would prove otherwise. These new flat styles are stylish and sophisticated and, most importantly, wearable. From your classic flat pumps for the office through to more on-trend embellished numbers for evening wear, these are the flats that will see you through the season in style (and in comfort.)

Lace Up Flats

Lace up flats have quickly cemented themselves as the must-have everyday shoe. While the color options vary between brands, you can’t go lose with a classic black pair of lace up pumps to give your outfits a stylish update. The best part is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get on board this trend train. Hit up your favourite fashion chain stores like Zara and Forever21 for an affordable fix.

Menswear-Inspired Pointed Loafers

Menswear-inspired footwear is still as popular as ever, but right now it’s all about the pointed loafer. Pointed loafers like this pair of Nicholas Kirkwood pebbled leather loafers sharpen up any outfit, and those with patent finishes are perfect for creating a really polished look. Team your pointed loafers with cropped trousers and crisp shirts or pair with flirty dresses for an unexpected contrast.

Embellished Slippers

Swap out your heels for some embellished flat shoes to go with your next party outfit. Keep an eye out for shoes with crystal, sequin or gem embellishments. Embellished shoes can easily glam up a little black dress or a pair of tailored trousers. If you don’t want to commit to the trend with these Dolce & Gabbana slippers, other designers have much more affordable yet equally stylish alternatives such as Kate Spade and Sam Edelman.

Ankle Strapped Flats

If simple, understated style is more your thing like these classic Chloe’s, then ankle strap flats are just the ticket. They channel the everyday versatility of the ballet flat but the ankle strap adds that extra bit of sexiness to the design. Wear your ankle strap flats with cropped skinny jeans to show them off or with pleated skirts and turtleneck tops for a more retro look.

Ankle Boots

Boots are the staple for any woman’s wardrobe. A well made pair of boots can weather the elements and last you year in and year out. A classic style like this pull-on ankle boot from Acne Studios is super versatile and timeless. Wear them with a floral dress and parka for a bohemian, cool-girl inspired look or opt for something more timeless in a collared shirt, blazer and jeans.
