Hotel Spotlight: Kimpton La Peer Hotel

Located on a narrow tree-lined side street called La Peer, nestled between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, sits the brand new Kimpton La Peer Hotel. It is a quintessential cool contemporary Los Angeles hotel, with no detail being overlooked.

For the past three years Los Angeles-based architect Gulla Jonsdottir has been overseeing the interior design of the 105-room Kimpton hotel, which opened it’s doors in January of this year. When I attended the grand opening, I was surprised to see how vast the hotel really was, being that it is tucked away on an unassuming street in West Hollywood (which also made me like it even more.) Eager to “resonate to the pulse” of neighbors and prominent Los Angeles designers such as Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Kelly Wearstler and Commune, Jonsdottir says she wanted to create a hotel “where art, music, fashion, poetry, film and architecture intertwine within a context of spatial harmony.”

From the front reception desk, to the bustling lounge area, to the picturesque pool, plush guest rooms, all the way up to the rooftop deck, this hotel definitely has what it takes to truly make a name for itself in the neighborhood.

The hotel’s design is centered around subtle earth tones. The concrete and leather walls, white oak flooring, bronze columns, curved brass ceiling details and soft, contemporary furniture make it inviting, yet contemporary and cool. A beautiful bronze and wood bar with Gaudi tiles, brass vintage light fixtures, a vertical garden wall and hanging globes on the patio make the outdoor space feel hip and trendy.

The 105 rooms and suites are luxe but also subdued, with gray and beige patterned tiles, comfortable plush white bedding, string art wall designs on the walls, and geometric gold light fixtures.

Topping all of this off, is the hotel’s resident Italian trattoria, Viale dei Romani, by chef Casey Lane, owner of the famous Los Angeles staple, Tasting Kitchen. If you’re visiting Los Angeles, or an Angeleno in need of a staycation, I definitely recommend resting your head at the Kimpton La Peer, like I did recently. I actually chose the hotel to be the backdrop for a photoshoot, utilizing the lighting in one of their beautiful suites, and the crystal blue water of their pool.
