I decided to do some Spring cleaning today in my closet, and it felt surprisingly cathartic. I enjoy cleaning out my closet every season, not only for the enjoyment of being organized, but also because the random pieces I find buried within the depths of my closet bring on both nostalgia and reinvention of old purchases. Every piece of clothing I own comes with a story, and reminiscing with each one individually is always something fun to do. After two hours of chaos, my closet was finally looking more like boutique than a bazaar; color and seasonally coordinated, with room to grow!
There is a certain method to my madness whilst cleaning out my closet. I like to fashion the cleaning in an organized order to make the experience effortlessly efficient. Below are the steps I use to clean out my closet.
1. Take Everything Out Of Your Closet
2. Make 3 piles: Keep, Dump, Donate
3. Organize your keep pile by grouping like items, color coordinate, and organize according to season
4. Dump the clothes you know you will never wear, and no one else will either (stained, ripped, stretched, worn)
5. Box up the donation items and drop off at your favorite charity (Goodwill, LA Mission, Chrysalis)
6. Lastly, smile, because now you have room to bring in the new.
